October 2005 Album Blog

Posted by Chris Garner on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 Under: Monthly Album Blog

As it turned out, 2005 was an ideal year for me to undertake the project. The company I worked for, had offices all around the country and my role during that year took me to different cities every week. This included London, York, Plymouth, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Exeter, Shrewsbury, Derby, Reading and many more. I was also living in Wiltshire and so I tried to make the most of that beautiful county, with it’s wonderful history.

Then in August I got an email from my good friend David Gadsby, to tell me that he was going to marry a Peruvian lady called Vanessa in Cusco, Peru. An opportunity to see them get married, and to return to one of my favourite countries, was one I could not miss. I took most of my annual leave for the year and flew out at short notice. So the project was also able to include that wonderful trip as well.

On the way there, I stopped over in Miami for a few days to see my friend Sylvia Lucia and her family. Then after two wedding ceremonies in the Andes, and visits to lots of ancient Inca sites, I got to travel to the north of Peru to see the city of Trujillo. It was here I met the lovely Ana Clara for the first time, as we travelled around the ancient Moche cities, and then back to Lima together. Finally, on the way back to England, I was able to spend a few more days in Miami with Sylvia Lucia.

With such wonderful experiences and awe inspiring scenery, taking a photo each day was a pleasure. The only difficulty was that I could only choose the one photo from the day!

Involving my friends in the project was a joy throughout the year. Their enthusiasm and kind words kept me going and provided me with much inspiration. The project also served as an excellent diary. Each photograph brings back memories of the day and somehow captures something of how I felt and what I experienced. Everyday I spent time to really look at the world, whilst searching for an interesting angle, light, shadow or situation to capture. So the year seems particularly vivid to me.
