Your Challenge
The primary aim of this website is to encourage as many people as possible to undertake their own projects. So I encourage you to explore the possibilities and rewards of taking a self portrait every day, or every week, for a year. The 'photo a day' is far tougher but much more rewarding and the results often better.
Try to be as creative as possible, without using photoshop or any other enhancement or manipulation tools. The challenge is primarily to look at your environment and to be inspired. Look for the changes in light, shade, sky or seasons. Play with reflection, crowds, shadows, patterns, etc.
Whilst the guiding principal is relatively simple, it creates tremendous possibilities for creativity. Since the initiation of the project a few friends completed their own versions, though usually doing the one photo a week, rather than the much tougher one a day. They too have found it to be very beneficial. The need to be creative and interesting, teaches you to look at the world in a different, focused and more intense way.
Another different option is to use a different theme, so rather than yourself perhaps a family member; a friend; a particular location; particular types of nature; an object. My brother Mark's project used a different theme with fantastic results.
But of course the advantage of using yourself is that you can never leave yourself behind, or can you? (You can, of course, forget your camera though. However with a camera on every mobile phone this is much less likely these days).
Whatever you do, make sure your creative and you have fun!!
